Ellmers Statement on Announced Troop Withdrawal from Iraq

WASHINGTON, DC— Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC) today released the following statement on the president's announced withdrawal of American troops from Iraq by the end of the year:

"On Friday, President Obama announced his decision to withdraw our remaining troops from Iraq by the end of the year. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank the brave men and women of our armed forces and their families for their noble sacrifice in the defense of liberty and freedom abroad."

"Today we can look back with pride on the victory we accomplished, the challenges we overcame, and the valor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. While the military operation will be coming to a close, we must remain vigilant and ready to protect the United States at home and abroad. May God continue to bless and protect our troops and continue to bless the United States of America."

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and represents Fort Bragg in her district.
