Ellmers Stands with Republican Women Against Obamacare

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement following a press conference hosted by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-5) this afternoon:

"This week, the Supreme Court began reviewing President Obama's healthcare overhaul to determine if any portion of the law violates the Constitution. The Court is considering the individual mandate - a fundamental piece of the law that requires all Americans to either purchase health insurance or suffer fines and penalties by the government. If this law is allowed to stand, it will create a dangerous precedent and rob future generations of their life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness by placing it into the hands of an unaccountable federal government."

"As a wife and mother, I know the challenges that come with managing a household budget while making sure my family is cared for. When it comes to healthcare, no one knows about the protections that are vital to their family more than wives and mothers. As a parent, you should have the right to determine your child's healthcare options, and nothing should come between you and your doctor."

"I ran for office in order to defund, dismantle, repeal, and replace Obamacare. But this is only one battle in the fight to reclaim our freedoms. I will not rest until the entire law is repealed, and today we are one step closer to fulfilling this promise."
