Ellmers Responds to President Obama's Address on ISIL

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the following statement this evening in response to President Obama’s address to the nation on the threat of ISIL in the Middle East:

“I witnessed a real change in the president’s attitude and believe that this is due to the resolve of the American people. The president showed a deliberate tone and determination this evening to unite our allies and stop ISIL. But the true measure of his words will be determined by his actions. We are facing an extremely dangerous situation in the Middle East with the rise of ISIL.”

“Securing Iraq required enormous sacrifices by our military, their families, and hardworking American taxpayers. It is an absolute shame to see these gains reversed and new threats emerge from the very same land. At the same time, I have the utmost confidence in our military and am proud of the American people for uniting in this mission to prevent the spread of terror abroad.”

“There is real evil in this world, and by acknowledging that reality, we can take the necessary actions to ensure that this terror remains isolated. Peace through strength is not a mere talking point - it is a proven policy that ensures our nation can continue to be a powerful force for freedom in a dangerous world.”
