Ellmers Celebrates Army's 237th Birthday in Video from Afghanistan

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-2) with soldiers based out of

Fort Bragg, NC in Kandahar, Afghanistan

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this morning:

"I'm so proud to join all Americans in wishing the US Army a happy 237th birthday today. For over two centuries the brave men and women of our military have continued to fight for freedom abroad and protect it at home. I'm proud of our army's noble tradition and wish all of our troops the very best on this important day in our nation's history."

Last month, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers travelled to Afghanistan as part of a congressional delegation to visit with American troops, Afghan officials, and civilians. The trip was organized to conduct oversight of U.S. operations in Afghanistan with a focus on the contributions, efforts, and concerns of women in the United States Armed Forces and local Afghan women. She was accompanied by fellow Congresswomen Martha Roby (R-AL), Susan Davis (D-CA), Donna Edwards (D-MD), and Kathy Hochul (D-NY).

Congresswoman Ellmers serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
