Ellmers Applauds Passage of Veterans Legislation

H.R. 3230 Passes with Strong Bipartisan Support and Reinforces Commitment to
Protecting Veterans and Ensuring They Receive the Best Care

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the following statement this morning after voting last night for the passage of H.R. 3230 - The Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act:

“The management of our veterans' healthcare is not only a sacred trust, but a moral responsibility to the men and women who sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. I was proud to vote last night for a bill that will begin to fix the glaring problems in our VA system and ensure that our veterans are receiving the highest quality care and benefits.”

“This bill will begin to address many of the problems facing the VA, but in particular, two important provisions will bring immediate help to veterans in my district. First, it will allow veterans who are enrolled in the VA health care system but face long waits and lengthy travel to a VA center to receive non-VA care with their choice of physician as of August 1, 2014. Additionally, this bill will improve delivery of care to veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma.”

“I will continue to fight on behalf of our veterans and work with our local VA hospitals to ensure these changes are made. Those who sacrificed everything for our republic deserve the quality care they earned.”

Last night, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly (420-5) to pass H.R. 3230 - The Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act. This bill will ensure that our veterans receive the care and benefits they earned and will address many of the glaring problems facing the Veteran’s Administration.
