From our beautiful beaches to our woodlands, Delaware has been blessed with an abundance of natural resources. That is why I have worked so hard to protect the environment throughout my career in public service, including leading the opposition against oil and gas drilling off Delaware’s coast. Instead, we should focus on alternative energy technologies, which will allow us to address the serious challenges of climate change, improve the sustainability of our land and waters, and reduce our dependence on oil. By focusing our efforts on clean energy and innovation, we can improve U.S. competitiveness in rapidly growing industries and create thousands of jobs for Delawareans, while moving toward greater energy security.

  • Developing offshore wind: Offshore wind will create jobs, reduce pollution, and move our nation toward energy independence.  Delaware remains positioned as an important partner in this industry due to the potential wind assets from our coast, our skilled manufacturers and workforce, and the leading research being conducted at our colleges and universities. I am a proud supporter of an offshore wind tax credit that incentivizes entrepreneurs to locate their companies in the U.S., creating jobs in our communities and attracting investment from other businesses that build component parts for the wind turbines located in the Atlantic Ocean off Delaware’s shores.

  • Conserving land and water resources: Realistic, fiscally responsible methods to sustain and improve local ecosystems are my priority. I introduced the House companion measure to Sen. Carper’s bill to establish a National Park in Delaware. As a Co-Chair of the Delaware River Basin Task Force, I work with bipartisan colleagues in the region to improve conservation efforts and restore habitats, control flooding, and bolster oyster and fish populations. Earlier this year I introduced the bipartisan Delaware River Basin Conservation Act with five Democrats and six Republicans to help facilitate conservation efforts within the Basin without authorizing any additional federal spending.

  • Reforming federal energy policies: There are numerous ways to eliminate or reform policies that are outdated, ineffective, or do not help American families. I will continue fighting for the repeal of wasteful subsidies to oil companies that are among the world’s most profitable businesses. Rather, Congress should be advancing proposals to reduce monthly energy bills and transportation costs. I am a proponent of energy efficiency and cost-competitive, domestic alternatives to oil
