Capt. Daniel DeFlavis, a decorated member of the Delaware National Guard, accompanied Delaware Congressman John Carney at Tuesday's State of the Union address in Washington.

DeFlavis is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran who was deployed there for a year as a platoon leader and took over the 153rd Military Police Company once he returned. He ran it from 2008-2011.

"It's an honor to have Captain DeFlavis as my guest for tonight's State of the Union," said Carney. "His exemplary leadership while deployed in Iraq is indicative of the tremendous service that the Delaware National Guard provides to our state and nation."
