U.S. Rep. John Carney (D-Del) visited Masley Enterprises to discuss American manufacturing and ways that local companies can compete in the global economy. Masley Enterprises, based near Wilmington, designs and produces specialized gloves that members of the armed services can wear while performing their duties. The company currently employs 37 people who design, cut, and assemble their products.

"I'm convinced that if the U.S. is going to continue to be the leading economy in the world, we must make things in America again," said Carney. "I'm committed to ensuring that our local manufacturers have the resources to remain competitive in the global economy. By investing in education, research, and innovation, we are not only strengthening our ability to innovate, but we're also helping middle-class families succeed."

Before founding Masley Enterprises in July 2000, Frank Masley was an engineer and glove product specialist for W.L. Gore & Associates, Newark. Over the last decade, Masley Enterprises has received contracts with the U.S. Army and the Delaware National Guard. They have developed products that include Fuel Handler's gloves, as well as specialized Waterproof and Cold Weather gloves.

"Creating new manufacturing opportunities is critical to the economic recovery," said Carney. "Government needs to create a friendly business environment so that companies like Masley Enterprises can succeed. I look forward to working with small business owners to help them commercialize their innovative ideas and create jobs for American workers.
