RYAN THOMPSON
Chief of Staff

 Ryan is responsible for the oversight of daily operations in the Washington, D.C. and Texas offices, which are located in Arlington, Ennis and Crockett. He works with the staff to ensure that the goals of the office are in line with those of the Sixth District. Ryan also works with Congressman Barton to prioritize his goals and ensure implementation of those goals and objectives.

Ryan has been with Congressman Barton for 9 years. He has served as Special Assistant, Political Director and Deputy Chief of Staff. Prior to his time with Barton, Thompson spent four years in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from Texas A&M University.

He has also been active in charities in Texas and DC. Thompson has volunteered with the Ennis Rotary, along with the Brazos County Boys and Girls Club, the National Youth Sports Program and the Brazos County Academy for the Rehabilitation & Motivation of Youth. He also organizes the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, an annual event in which he raises over $200,000 for local charities in the Washington, DC area.

 

MICHAEL WEEMS
Legislative Director

As Legislative Director, Michael is involved in the development and implementation of legislative priorities and effective communication strategies on behalf of Congressman Barton. On a continual basis he coordinates between the Washington and District staff and works along side the Committee on Energy and Commerce to ensure the Congressman's goals are met and priorities are carried out.

Michael oversees the day to day operations of the legislative staff in Washington, DC. His legislative portfolio includes: Appropriations, Energy and Power, Environment, Ethics, Health; Space, Science, Technology, House Administration, Natural Resources, and Transportation.

A native of Austin, Michael graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.A. in Political Science before joining Congressman Barton's staff in 2005. Prior to working for Congressman Barton, Michael worked in the Office of the Executive Vice President for the Texas Tech Alumni Association and was an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.

 

SEAN BROWN
Communications Director

As Rep. Barton's Communications Director, Sean is in charge of promoting the Congressman's views and initiatives. He handles all press inquiries, helps with the weekly column and the office's e-newsletter – The Barton Briefing. Sean is also in charge of coordinating Rep. Barton's social media outreach on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. 

Sean joined the Barton staff in 2008. He previously worked as a television reporter in Fort Smith, AR and Naples, FL. He graduated from George Washington University in 1996 with a degree in Political Communication. He also has a Masters from Northwestern University in Broadcast Journalism. Sean is from Mesquite, TX.

 

EMMANUAL GUILLORY
Senior Legislative Assistant

As the Senior Legislative Assistant, Emmanual is responsible for handling the following legislative issues: Education, Communications and Techonology, Labor, Social Security, Judiciary, Telecommunications, Agriculture, Housing, Ways and Means, and Privacy. 

Emmanual is from Lufkin, TX. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology and a Certification in Leadership Studies. Emmanual also completed a Masters of Arts degree at Bowling Green State University in Higher Education Administration.  He joined the Barton staff in 2009.

 

NINA SHELAT
Legislative Assistant/Web Administrator

As a Legislative Assistant, Nina is responsible for handling the following issues: Budget, Financial Services, Small Business, Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, Select Intelligence, Homeland Security, 2nd Amendment, Immigration, Postal, Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade. 

Nina also maintains Congressman Barton's Congressional website and ensures that all features work properly so that constituents can easily navigate through the site. 

Nina is from Snellville, GA and attended Georgia State University where she studied Political Science and Sociology. She joined the Barton staff in 2010.

 

AMY MURPHY
Legislative Correspondent

As Legislative Correspondent, Amy assists Congressman Barton by responding to all constituent mail from the 6th District. She specializes in Foreign Affairs, Defense, Homeland Security, and Energy issues while also covering Budget, Education, Telecommunications, and Healthcare correspondence.

Amy graduated from Texas A&M in College Station, TX in May 2010 with a double major in International Studies and History and a minor in Russian. She graduated from the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University in May 2012 with a master's degree in International Affairs. She joined the Barton staff in 2012.

 

ABIGAIL P. GAGE
Staff Assistant/Office Manager

As Staff Assistant, Abigail assists Congressman Barton by working directly with the constituents of the 6th District. She schedules DC visitors' tours, conducts Capitol tours, and oversees the general administration of the office. Abigail also assists the legislative staff on projects as needed. Abigail comes from Hilltop Lakes, Texas, where she first met Congressman Barton and several staff members in 2007 while working at NuCor Steel in Jewett, Texas. After graduation from Washington and Lee University, Abigail served as a commissioned officer in the US Army and completed tours in both Iraq and Germany.
