Fellowships and Internships

If you are a parent of a college student or know a college student who would like to increase their job opportunities after graduation, an internship or fellowship may be worth looking into.

As Representative of the Second Congressional District, I thought you may be interested in a listing of federal, state and corporate internships and fellowships.

According to results of the National Associations and College Employer’s (NACE) 2010 Student Survey, there is a definite financial advantage for students who have internship experience.  Overall, students in the Class of 2010 who had internships received an average salary offer of $41,580.  Meanwhile, their classmates who did not take internships received an average starting salary offer of $34,601.

It is beyond dispute that internships are becoming increasingly relevant and important to both employers as well as employees.  At a minimum, internships provide the benefits of actual business experience, but they also may result in full-time employment upon graduation.

Federal, state and private entities are gearing up to announce internship and fellowship opportunities for summer 2012, and a first-time applicant may find the process daunting; therefore, I encourage you to get a head start by clicking here for a complete listing of available internships and fellowships.  You can also access the website to learn more about services that are offered to the constituents of Mississippi’s Second District.

If I can be of assistance, please contact me at 202-225-5876.

Sincerely,

Bennie G. Thompson
Member of Congress
