The United States has now been in Afghanistan for more than a decade – longer than any other conflict in our country’s history. Congressman Larson has repeatedly called for an immediate, accelerated, but responsible withdrawal from Afghanistan.

After President Obama’s latest State of the Union Address, Larson applauded the announcement of the withdrawal of 34,000 additional troops. In 2011 Congressman Larson also commended the President for staying true to his word and bringing the Iraq War to a close.

2013 marks the 10th Anniversary of the War in Iraq, leaving our nation to face a number of challenges as troops are withdrawn and continue to return home from Afghanistan. Tens of thousands of troops were wounded throughout the war. Many are struggling with the effects of post-traumatic stress.

Veterans who have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan are also looking for employment in our difficult economy. Just as the military's promise is to leave no soldier behind, we must always remember to leave no veteran behind.

Congressman Larson has stood firmly in support of Israel, considered our greatest ally and a great democracy in the Middle East. Previously, Larson has voted in favor of resolutions reaffirming Congressional support for Israel and the right of the Israeli people to protect themselves. At the same time, Larson has joined his colleagues in recognizing the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, supporting diplomatic initiatives in the region.
