Patriotic and National Observances, Ceremonies, and Organizations

BACKGROUND

The bill makes revisions in Title 36, Patriotic and National Observances, Ceremonies, and Organizations, United States Code, as necessary to keep the title current and make technical corrections and improvements. The bill was prepared by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel as part of its responsibility under section 205(c) of House Resolution No. 988, 93d Congress, as enacted into law by Public Law 93-554 (2 U.S.C. 285b), to prepare and submit periodically to the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives proposed bills to maintain titles of the United States Code that have been enacted into positive law. MAJOR ACTIONS & STATUS

The current bill is identical to H.R. 6602 in the 112th Congress, which passed the House but was not taken up by the Senate. In the 113th Congress, the successor bill, H.R. 1067, was introduced by the chairman and ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee on March 12, 2013, and the bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The bill was reported favorably on April 19, 2013, and passed the House under suspension of the rules on April 23, 2013. The bill was received in the Senate and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 24, 2013.
