Internships

Internship opportunities are available in my Hawaii and Washington, DC offices. These unpaid internships provide opportunities to gain firsthand knowledge of how a Senate office operates, engage with constituents, observe the federal legislative process, and develop research skills related to public policy.

Qualified applicants should possess a professional and courteous demeanor, outstanding interpersonal communication skills, the ability to multi-task, excellent attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, interest in the governmental process, and an awareness of community and cultural issues.

Internships are designed primarily for the educational benefit of students currently enrolled in undergraduate degree programs.

Preference will be given to applicants with ties to the state of Hawai‘i.

Washington, DC office

Legislative Internship

Duties may include, but are not limited to, assisting with administrative tasks, processing mail, attending briefings and hearings, conducting legislative research, writing memos for staff, drafting constituent correspondence, and providing Capitol tours for visitors from Hawaii.

Press Internship

In addition to the above duties, press interns assist with the day-to-day operations of a very active press office by compiling press clips, writing press releases and memos, and conducting research. Candidates should have an interest in communications.

Hawaii Office

Internship

This internship is designed to provide an intern with an understanding of the core functions of daily operations. Responsibilities include assisting full-time staff in responding to various constituent services including clerical support tasks, assisting with information inquiries, updating computer records, and drafting general correspondence.
