At Landrieu’s urging, Iraq commits to buying U.S. Rice

“This situation is very concerning to Louisiana’s rice farmers.  That is why I spoke to Ambassador Jones to ask that he work quickly with Iraqi officials to reach a quick and fair resolution to this problem,” Sen. Landrieu said.  “At my request, Ambassador Jones committed to work to find a solution as soon as possible. Rice is critical to Louisiana’s economy, and our hard-working rice farmers and mill workers deserve to be treated fairly in the international marketplace.”

Landrieu Lauds Senate Passage of Child Care Bill that Will Help Working Families

“We vividly remember when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita displaced more than 160,000 children in Louisiana and Mississippi with no mandated emergency preparedness for child care in place. It is crucial that every child care facility be prepared to protect our nation’s children. The devastation a storm brings—whether it is a tornado in North Louisiana or hurricane along our coast—is terrible enough without having to worry about your children’s safety.  In the toughest of times, this solution will bring families a little peace of mind to know their children are safe and cared for,” Sen. Landrieu said. “Today, we ensured that our children will be properly cared for during a disaster.  Kids can’t take care of themselves and when disasters strike, we must have plans in place to keep them safe."

Landrieu Urges State Department to Review Iraq’s Refusal to Buy U.S. Rice

“For reasons unbeknownst to the rice farmers of our country, the IGB and Iraq’s Minister of Trade, Mallas al-Hussaini, have refused to buy any U.S. rice from this year’s harvest. Landrieu wrote.

KARD: Poverty Point's new World Heritage Site designation brings tourism jobs to Northeast Louisiana

Sen. Landrieu secured the attendance of a high-level U.S. official, the Department of the Interior's Acting Assistant Secretary Rachel Jacobson, to advocate for the site at the World Heritage Annual Convention that met in Doha, Qatar, during the last week.
