Learn About the New Louisiana Health Care Insurance Marketplace

Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, many Louisianians will have access to greater choice, coverage and consumer protections when purchasing health care insurance. For those who do not have health care through their employer or are looking for more choices that fit their needs and budget, open enrollment for private insurance coverage in the new Health Insurance Marketplace begins October 1st.

October 1, 2013: Marketplace Enrollment Begins 

  • Open enrollment for the new Health Insurance Marketplace begins for individuals, families, and small businesses. If you don't have coverage, you can use the new Marketplace to buy a private insurance plan.
  • Depending on your family size and income, you may get lower costs on monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
  • The Marketplace will offer side-by-side comparisons of private health insurance plans.

January 1, 2014: Marketplace Coverage Begins  

March 31, 2014: Marketplace Enrollment Closes

  • Marketplace open enrollment closes March 31, 2014.

When open enrollment starts on October 1, 2013, in many communities assisters will be available in-person to help you apply and understand your options. Information about these services in your community will be available then.

Additionally, the Small Business Administration has launched a website designed specifically to educate small business owners about the ACA launched.  The new website provides information that is customizable based a company's location, size, and their plans for offering health benefits to their workers next year.
