Landrieu Announces $200K USDA Grant for Coastal Communities Consulting, Inc.

Rural Development grant will assist Gretna business with technical and development assistance

October 1, 2014

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today announced a $200,000 rural development grant to Coastal Communities Consulting, Inc. (CCC), a small business located in Gretna, La. This specific rural development grant is awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Small, Socially-Disadvantaged Producer Grant (SSDPG) program. Today’s funding will provide resources to legal assistance, business planning, and marketing plan development to commercial fisherman in Southeast Louisiana.

In June, Sen. Landrieu wrote a letter to Secretary Vilsack at the USDA expressing her support for CCC’s mission to assist commercial fishermen and their families. Read the letter online here.

Coastal Communities Consulting, Inc. (CCC) is a not-for-profit organization that has served Southeast Louisiana's rural communities since 2010.  CCC assists over 1,200 commercial fishermen and other rural entrepreneurs from Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and Terrebonne parishes in managing their businesses and training business owners in new areas of employment. For more information on the programs provided by CCC, visit their website

“Coastal Communities Consulting provides assistance to commercial fisherman and rural entrepreneurs who keep local communities thriving. Louisiana fishermen produce one-third of the nation’s seafood and support 1.3 million jobs," Sen. Landrieu said. “Today’s grant award to CCC further proves the positive benefits that local non-profits can provide small businesses to ensure they succeed and are able to support families who have dedicated their lives to the industry for generations.”

The primary objective of the SSDPG program is to provide technical assistance to small, socially disadvantaged agricultural producers through eligible cooperatives and cooperative development centers. These funds in particular will be used to provide legal assistance, business planning, and marketing plan development to socially disadvantaged commercial fishermen.
