Landrieu Lauds Senate Passage of Export-Import Bank Reauthorization
Bank supports thousands of jobs across the Louisiana supply chain, helps small businesses sell goods and services to world markets
WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today lauded the reauthorization of the Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank through June 30, 2015. In July, Sen. Landrieu joined senators from both parties to sponsor legislation that re-authorizes the Export-Import Bank of the United States through the end of FY 2019 and increases its lending authority to $160 billion by FY 2018. Since 2007, the Ex-Im Bank has provided $116 billion in export financing, which in turn supported about $236 billion in U.S. exports and more than 1.2 million U.S. jobs. “Today’s vote to extend the Ex-Im Bank for nine months is a good step toward ensuring Louisiana businesses have the support they need to continue exporting goods and services to world markets,” Sen. Landrieu said. “The Ex-Im Bank directly helps nearly 150 Louisiana businesses and supports thousands of jobs, boosting the economy across the state. I urge members of Congress from both parties to join me in working to pass a long-term reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank so businesses in Louisiana and across the country can continue exporting their products and importing jobs.” Last week, Sen. Landrieu urged Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate and House to move forward and reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank before it expires on September 30. Read a copy of Sen. Landrieu’s letter here. Earlier this month, Sen. Landrieu highlighted a report released by the United States Department of Commerce that shows Louisiana exports support 283,000 jobs in the state. Earlier this summer, Sen. Landrieu released a list of nearly 150 Louisiana companies directly supported by the Ex-Im Bank. She also release a list of over 400 companies indirectly supported by the Bank in the Capital, NOLA, Bayou, Central/Northeast, Southwest and Northwest regions of Louisiana. In 2013, Senator Landrieu received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious “Spirit of Enterprise” award due in part to her leadership to reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank in 2012.
