“The Congressional Art Competition gives high school students from our local area an opportunity to share their work with the whole country,” Boehner said. “I’m always impressed to see so many talented young artists, and this year was no exception.”
We’d like you to meet this year’s winners:
Christine Tweddell (pictured above) from Lakota West High School in Butler County, won the Grand Prize with her entry, Restless. Twedell’s artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
Ronald Caudill’s First Place entry (pictured above), Dying Love, will hang in the Office of the Speaker of the House for one year. Caudill is from Hamilton, Ohio, and he attends Butler Tech School of the Arts.
Caudill said he chose this piece because it was a recent project that he is very proud of and added, “I’m really happy that this is a competition. It gives students an opportunity to showcase their artwork. In high school, you’re very limited in what you can do with your artwork. This competition gives students something to look forward to other than a grade.”
