FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 29, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) released the following statement regarding the failed launch last night of the Antares rocket at Wallops Flight Facility.

“As the Ranking Democrat of the Space Subcommittee, my priorities are the safety of all those involved in launches and missions, and ensuring that both the ISS crew and scientists on the ground receive the resources they need.   Last night’s failed launch is the latest reminder that, despite our many successes in space, getting there is anything but routine.  I was sorry to hear about the experimental data, equipment, and supplies that were lost in the explosion.  Thankfully, no one was injured and I know that the accident investigation team is already hard at work examining the launch data and the site itself.  They will work with the appropriate federal agencies to find the underlying cause of the failure and use that knowledge to ensure successful future launches.

“I want to thank NASA for their efforts to make a conversation during a subcommittee hearing with fellow Marylander CDR Reid Wiseman back in July about our love of crab cakes into a reality.  I look forward to having those crab cakes when CDR Wiseman returns to earth and visits Capitol Hill.”
