While Democrats Act to Solve Real Problems, Republicans Waste Time with Symbolic Immigration Bill
The Senate bipartisan immigration bill and the President's enforcement priorities on immigration make one thing clear: Democrats have acted to fix our nation's immigration system. Instead of working with Democrats towards a real solution, House Republicans have resorted to empty promises and false rhetoric. Today, they'll take another step towards a Republican government shutdown by wasting time in the Rules Committee on a purely symbolic bill sponsored by Rep. Ted Yoho.
MEET THE AUTHOR OF THE GOP BILL TO APPEASE THE TEA PARTY:
"Since being sworn in, [Rep. Ted Yoho] has voted against Boehner for speaker, said an Obamacare tax on indoor tanning was "racist," and suggested that a government shutdown could stabilize markets." [Bloomberg, 12/2/14]
EVEN SUPPORTERS ACKNOWLEDGE THE BILL IS "SYMBOLIC, "NOT GOING ANYWHERE."
Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL):
"It will be symbolic" in that case, Yoho said. [Bloomberg, 12/2/14]
Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ):
"I'm going to vote for Yoho's bill, but it's not going to go anywhere. And everybody knows that." [AP, 12/2/14]

Politico: "They Will Try To Convince The Troops To Channel Their Anger At A Mostly Symbolic Immigration Bill":
At a meeting in the basement of the Capitol Tuesday morning, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the GOP leadership team will face rank-and-file Republicans for the first time since President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration. They will try to convince the troops to channel their anger at a mostly symbolic immigration bill, while agreeing to a separate funding package that would keep most of the government open for nine months, while funding immigration enforcement agencies for just a few months. Washington Post: "A Largely Symbolic Effort":
One bill under review, pushed by tea party conservative Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.), would attempt to ban the White House from changing immigration laws, and is seen as a largely symbolic effort to curb the president's executive authority. [Washington Post, 12/2/14]
ABC News: "GOP Leadership Team Will Try and Persuade Their Rank-And-File To Vent Their Frustration on Immigration through A Largely Symbolic Bill":
Speaker John Boehner's strategy can be boiled down to three words: Vent, don't shutdown. The GOP leadership team will try and persuade their rank-and-file to vent their frustration on immigration through a largely symbolic bill denouncing President Obama's executive order, without allowing it to fester into a government shutdown. [ABC, 12/2/14]
Bloomberg: "It's a Symbolic Measure That Would Have Essentially Zero Chance of Passing":
The freshman Florida Republican has proposed a bill that aims to remove the president's executive power when it comes to deportations. It's a symbolic measure that would have essentially zero chance of passing in the last days of a Democratic-controlled Senate. But Boehner and his crew hope it's enough to pacify a Republican caucus seething over President Barack Obama's immigration actions last month. [Bloomberg, 12/2/14]
