U.S. Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) today made the following statement after the President addressed the nation on the progress being made treating Ebola:

“The doctors, nurses and other medical professionals on the front lines, including those at UNMC should be commended for their efforts to fight this disease. I also want to thank our military for rising to the challenge to help stop the spread of this disease at its source.

“But the President’s victory lap today does nothing to inspire confidence in his leadership to protect public health. The President’s leadership on this issue is missing and so is his so-called Ebola Czar Ron Klain. Also missing is a clear strategy that tackles this public health threat that Americans can fully comprehend.

“I continue to believe the best way to protect American citizens from this disease is to institute a travel ban to and from those countries that have experienced Ebola outbreaks. I would also like to see continued scrutinization and better management of the CDC. Hospitals around this country need CDC's leadership to establish proper protocols and procedures to treat a patient diagnosed with Ebola and under this CDC’s leadership, I don’t have the confidence that this has taken place.”
