Rep. David McKinley introduced a resolution opposing a federal carbon tax on fuels for electricity and transportation which was similarly included in the Cap and Trade legislation of 2009.

Rep. McKinley issued the following statement:

"Given our current economic climate, this is the worst time to implement another tax on coal, oil and gas—industries that fuel our economy. Affordable and abundant electricity from coal and natural gas is essential to our way of living and a carbon tax would increase the cost of electricity and put a financial burden on American families."

"Congress rejected Cap and Trade legislation in 2009. The principal argument continues to be that a carbon tax would increase the cost of everything from driving a car to heating and cooling a home."
