CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE STATEMENT ON EXTENSION OF NEGOTIATIONS WITH IRAN

CONGRESSWOMAN FUDGE STATEMENT ON EXTENSION OF NEGOTIATIONS WITH IRAN

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement today following the U.S. extension of negotiations with Iran:

“The lack of progress in achieving verifiable concessions from Iran to end its nuclear ambitions is very disappointing.  International negotiations must not be used to stall for time and continue enrichment of nuclear materials that threaten the security of our nation and our allies.  It is my hope and expectation that Iran lives up to its responsibility to halt any and all activities leading to the development of nuclear weapons as a condition of relief from additional sanctions or any other measures deemed necessary to contain a regime with a history of sponsoring terrorist organizations and engaging in human rights violations,” said Congresswoman Fudge.

“The November 7, 2014 report by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) made it clear that Iran has not proposed any new practical measures to resolve remaining concerns. The report stated, ‘…the Agency is not in a position to provide credible assurance of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran, and therefore to conclude that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities.’

“Negotiations must produce results, not empty promises nor perpetuate a dangerous status quo,” said Congresswoman Fudge.
