Foreclosure Prevention

Every American deserves a warm and secure home. However, right now, many home owners are having difficulty making their mortgage payments. The Center for Responsible Lending reports that Ohio had more than 90,000 foreclosures in 2012 despite the recovering housing market. Our community's foreclosure rate is distressing and unacceptable. That's why I have created these resources to assist you.

Here on my housing Home Page, you'll find:

  • Direct access to my housing case workers;
  • Resources that can help prevent foreclosure and;
  • Legislation I've supported to change the current foreclosure process.

I am thrilled that the Senate confirmed former Representative Mel Watt to the independent Federal Housing Finance Agency. He will provide the skilled and positive leadership needed to advance sound housing finance policies for our nation and effective oversight of the secondary mortgage market.

In 2013, I joined Representatives Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) and Dave Joyce (OH-14) and Senator Rob Portman in supporting the Ohio Housing Financing Agency (OHFA) consideration of a proposal to the U.S. Department of the Treasury that would make $60 million available from the federal Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) program for demolition of vacant and blighted homes in targeted areas of the state.

Congresswoman Fudge (fourth from right) at the Restore Our
Neighborhoods press conference. The sheer volume of foreclosed and
abandoned properties continues to lower property values in
neighborhoods across the nation. These blighted structures invite
crime and negatively impact the quality of life for residents
who work hard to maintain their homes. That is why I have
co-introduced legislation, HR 656, worked with community
partners and advocated for funds that would aid states and cities
in addressing the need to demolish vacant and abandoned properties.
