Medicare Commission's Task Forces
to Meet July 14-15

WASHINGTON (July 9) -- The three task forces of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare have set meetings for Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, in Washington, D.C., Sen. John Breaux (D-La.) and Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) announced today.

All of the task force meetings are open to the public. The 17-member Commission established the task forces to study various aspects of Medicare. The task forces will make presentations later to the full commission about their findings and analyses.

The Restructuring Task Force will discuss the international approach to health care reform, including a single-payer system, the use of budgetary caps and public regulation of provider payment. Professor Theodore Marmor of Yale University will discuss his research on this subject. The task force will meet:

The Reform Task Force will discuss employer-sponsored retiree health benefits, Medicare spending on Medicaid beneficiaries, and long-term care. The task force will meet:

The Modeling Task Force will discuss formats for staff estimates of Commission proposals and efforts to describe and quantify non-fiscal issues in Medicare. The task force will meet:
