Chairman Becerra Hails Strong Jobs Report; Urges GOP To Keep The Government Open And Not Disrupt The Economy

December 5, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 321,000 jobs in November marking the 57th consecutive month of private sector job growth.

“With the holidays upon us and so much hope and promise in the air, it’s great to see that 321,000 more hard-working Americans will feel the joy that a paycheck brings this holiday season. Over the past 57 months, nearly 11 million Americans have shared this renewed sense of economic security as our nation’s economy continues to rebound.

“Still, Republicans and Democrats need to work together and even harder to not simply create more jobs, but create good-paying jobs that ensure more families can reach the American Dream.

“At a minimum, House Republicans should resist the temptation to shut down our government again. The last time Republicans brought our government to a standstill, 800,000 Americans were put out of work and our economy lost $24 billion. Instead of burdening our economy with further uncertainty, let’s help give Americans a gift worthy of this holiday season: financial security and peace of mind.”
