Transportation and Infrastructure

As a state with a storied industrial heritage and aging infrastructure, Pennsylvania needs continued investment in roads, bridges, railroads, and waterways to keep its economy growing. Senator Toomey believes that the federal government can play an important role in supporting our infrastructure priorities and he has been proud to promote fiscally responsible legislation and policies to fund infrastructure maintenance and expansion.

Recently, Senator Toomey supported bipartisan legislation to continue federal support for Pennsylvania's vital roads, bridges and other transportation infrastructure. He also supported the Water Resources Reform and Development Act which authorized funding for badly needed water infrastructure projects such as locks and dams. These bills were signed into law and will provide critical assistance to infrastructure projects in Pennsylvania.

Beyond supporting the development of our physical infrastructure, Senator Toomey has also worked to promote a sensible regulatory environment for the transportation industry. He has cosponsored legislation that would delay onerous and unnecessary requirements for truck drivers and has promoted reasonable standards for small aircraft pilots and the rail industry. In the 112th Congress, Senator Toomey supported the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act, which funds and reforms our national aviation programs.

Senator Toomey hopes to have more opportunities to support responsible transportation and infrastructure legislation and he will keep the needs of our state's motorists, truck drivers, transit passengers and shippers in mind.
