2014 Artistic Discovery
The 2014 Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” is on the move. Established by Members of the US House of Representatives in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide annual event that allows high students from all fifty states, District of Columbia, and US territories to showcase their artistic ability.
For 17 years, my office has participated in this event and I am proud to take this opportunity to encourage and recognize the rich artistic talents of the 4th Congressional District’s high school students. Once again, our exhibition will be shown at Adelphi University. The entries will be displayed in Adelphi’s art gallery in the Ruth Harley University Center from Wednesday, May 21st to Thursday, May 29th 2014.
The winning piece will be exhibited by the Architect of the Capitol in the pedestrian tunnel between the Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building, the most-traveled corridor in the Capitol, for an entire year, June 2014 to May 2015. Additionally, the winner and their guest are invited to attend the official reception in Washington, DC.
For interested students whose school resides within the 4th Congressional District, please reach out to your school’s art teacher or Art Department Chair. The student’s school must reside within the 4th Congressional District in order to be eligible for consideration. The school’s art teachers have received information and will be able to provide you with the student release forms and framing guidelines. Only three (3) entries from each school will be accepted, so the art department will make their own arrangements to select the entries that will represent the school.
For more information about the contest, contact Keisha Miller in my District Office at 516-739-3008.
