Dreier Praises Proposed 112th Congress Rules Package as “Reform Minded, Accountability Oriented”

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), House Rules Committee Ranking Republican, praised the release of a draft Rules package for the 112th Congress today as “reform minded and accountability oriented.”  The draft package, which is being publicly posted in advance for the first time, must be debated and approved by the House Republican Conference.  It will then be the first major order of business, after election of the Speaker, for the full House of Representatives on January 5, 2011, the first day of the 112th Congress.

“While the Rules package for the 112th Congress remains in draft form, it makes clear the intention of the new Republican Majority to manage the House differently than both parties have done so in the past.  The proposed changes are both reform minded and accountability oriented.  We will be making good on our Pledge to America by ensuring bills are more easily accessible to the public and for a longer period of time.  We will also be changing the rules in order to make it easier to reduce spending, rather than increase it.  I am hopeful that this package of common-sense reforms will earn bipartisan support on January 5, 2011.”
