As amended at the Full Committee markup, the bill creates a new Interagency Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Working Group. The group would have federal and non-federal members, including members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Majority Leader of the Senate. The working group would develop a summary of research and advances related to Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases, monitor and make recommendations to the Secretary regarding federal activities on Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases, and hold annual public meetings. The group would submit a report to Congress on its activities every two years. The bill also would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to develop a strategic plan informed by the summary of research developed by the working group.
