Bill Status:
Signed into Law
Last Action:
Dec 20, 2013 H.R. 3588, introduced by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH) and Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY), amends the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act of 2011 to exclude fire hydrants from requirements for reduced lead content while requiring EPA to seek advice from the National Drinking Water Advisory Committee on ways to reduce lead exposure from drinking water distribution systems, including components used to reroute drinking water during distribution system repairs.
The legislation responded to concerns that no compliant fire hydrants would be available when the requirements for reduced lead content took effect on January 4, 2014.
On December 20, 2013, H.R. 3588 was signed by President Obama as Public Law 113-64.
