H.R. 3548, introduced by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH), amends the definition of the term “trauma” for the purposes of trauma care grants authorized in title XII of the Public Health Service Act to include burns or injuries resulting from extrinsic agents (such as chemical or radioactive exposure) in addition to those caused by mechanical force.

The bill passed the House on June 24, 2014.  The Senate passed the bill by unanimous consent on July 31, 2014, and President Obama signed it into law on August 8, 2014, making it Public Law 113-152.
