On August 1, 2013, Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman and Reps. Frank Pallone, Lois Capps, Jan Schakowsky, Doris Matsui, Grace Napolitano, and Danny K. Davis, introduced H.R. 2910, the Gun Violence Prevention and Reduction Act.  The legislation provides a framework for moving forward in the areas of Internet gun sales, mental health, and gun violence research.  The bill prohibits the sale of certain “homemade” gun kits and parts, targets research on serious mental illness, improves access to mental health services for all, and reinforces existing government authorities to carry out public health research on gun violence.
