H.R. 225, the "National Pediatric Research Network Act of 2013"
H.R. 225, the National Pediatric Research Network Act of 2013, was introduced by Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA) and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) on January 14, 2013. The bill authorizes the Director of the National Institutes of Health to establish a national pediatric research network comprised of pediatric research consortia. The Director can award cooperative agreements to those that strengthen and provide basic support to pediatric research consortia and train researchers.
The bill passed the House on February 4, 2013. Provisions of the National Pediatric Research Network Act were included in S. 252, the Prematurity Research Expansion and Education for Mothers who Deliver Infants Early (PREEMIE) Reauthorization Act. President Obama signed S. 252 into law on November 27, 2013, making it Public Law 113-55.
