Congressman Thompson ANNOUNCES $1,132,041 Awarded to Tunica County

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced The United States Department of Transportation has awarded $1,132,041 in grant funds to the County of Tunica & Tunica County Airport Commission.
 
This grant will provide federal funding for the Tunica Municipal Airport in Mississippi.  This grant is being increased from $2,486,982 to $3,619,023. The increase is based upon the bid price of the hangar building.
The design and construction of a hangar building will assist the airport to be as self-sustaining as possible by generating revenue. The sponsor has adequately financed the airside needs of the airport. This project will fund the reimbursement of the site improvements, which included grading, utilities, and engineering for the site in addition to an exterior component which included a canopy. The apron expansion of approximately 5,214 square yards is needed to accommodate the increased use of the general aviation facilities.  This grant will be issued as a multi-year grant with $2,486,982 in fiscal year 2014 funding. The remaining $1,000,000 of entitlements will be added by amendment subject to future appropriations through fiscal year 2015.
