THOMPSON WELCOMES SUMMER INTERNS: KHARI JOHNSON, KALLIE HARGROVE AND ALEX ORTIZ

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) announced the summer interns for his Washington, DC office.

Kallie Hargrove is a summer intern with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and formally worked as a Congressional House Page for Congressman Thompson.  A native of Raymond, Mississippi, Kallie is a junior kinesiology major at Hampton University.  Leading an active campus life, Kallie is a part of the student recruitment team, Rose Petal Mentors, band manager for the Marching Force, and Vice-President of the South-East Pre Alumni Council.  After receiving her degree in kinesiology, Kallie plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in nursing and specialize in hematology-oncology.

Khari Johnson is a sophomore mass communications/English double major at Tougaloo College. Khari is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, an Eagle Scout, award-winning motion picture creator and a Presidential Scholar at Tougaloo. Upon graduation, Johnson hopes to pursue a graduate degree in film studies.

Alex Ortiz is a junior economics major at Tougaloo College. On campus, Ortiz is a Presidential Scholar and serves as the Vice President for the Reuben V. Anderson Pre Law Society.  Alex is also a resident assistant, Tougaloo Ambassador, and a Young People 4 Undergraduate Alumnus. Alex serves as a Spanish Tutor and has studied economics at Brown University through the Tougaloo - Brown Exchange Program.  After graduation, Alex plans to attend law school and would like to continue to work in government or build a career in law.

"I am pleased to have Alex, Khari and Kallie join my office this summer," said Congressman Thompson. “While in Washington our interns are able to experience the legislative process first-hand.  As native Mississippians and students of my alma mater, I am confident that they will use this experience as motivation to improve their communities.”
