Thompson Statement on Supreme Court Affirmative Action Decision

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) released the following statement regarding the United States Supreme Court decision on affirmative action:

“Today, the Supreme Court has preserved its commitment to diversity in higher education, and I urge the Texas 5th Circuit Appeals Court to do the same. Without affirmative action, millions of Americans would have been denied the opportunity to pursue an education in our school systems. From this country’s inception, students of racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds have constantly been forced to challenge their rights to an education. I remain a strong proponent of affirmative action and will continue to seek justice for those without a voice.”
