WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS-02), will deliver the weekly Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) "Message to America" radio address on April 10, 2012. Representative Thompson’s remarks will address the lack of diversity in President Obama’s Cabinet and the need for inclusion of all Americans in the highest levels of the Administration.

The CBC "Message to America" is distributed nationwide to the American Urban Radio Network's (AURN) affiliate stations.

WHO: Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS-02)
WHEN:
 April 10, 2012
WHERE: American Urban Radio Network Affiliate Stations

Rep. Thompson(MS-02) is expected to deliver the following remarks:
Good morning, America. This is Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, representing the 2nd Congressional District of Mississippi. I am honored to deliver this week’s Message to America on behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus.

In 2008, African Americans came out in full force to support President Barack Obama’s campaign effort. In 2012, Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and African Americans across the nation again worked tirelessly and President Obama was re-elected. Now, four months into his second term we look to the President’s Cabinet appointments only to find that he has once again overlooked his most loyal constituency.

Many of my colleageues and I are disturbed by the President’s lack of attention to diversity in his cabinent and administration. I appauld Congressional Black Caucus Chair, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge for bringing attention to the issue with a letter to the President addressing the lack of diversity in his Cabinet.

President Obama has selected the lowest number of African American Cabinet members in 38 years, and fewer than his Republican predecessor George Bush who nominated four African Americans to his Cabinet.

CBC members have provided the President with numerous recommendations on Cabinent nominations, and one-by-one, as Cabinet members are selected, the Caucus and African Americans are on the outside looking in.

I encourage our President to be more inclusive and welcome Americans from all backgrounds into his Cabinet and the highest levels of his Administration.

This is not a time to stand idley by, Mr. President; this is an opportunity to act.

Neither I, nor the Congressional Black Caucus will rest until African Americans are represented throughout the Administration

On behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus, this is Congressman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi. Thank you for listening.
