Congressman Thompson Announces Military Academy Selections from the Second Congressional District

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announces the Military Academy selections.

	Mackenzie Davidson of Vicksburg, Mississippi – received a nomination and was accepted into the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.  Mr. Davidson is scheduled to graduate in May 2013 from Vicksburg Catholic School in Vicksburg, Mississippi and is the son of Mr. Kevin and Mrs. Conger Davidson.
	Christopher Monroe of Jackson, Mississippi – received a nomination and was accepted into the United States Military Academy (West Point) at West Point, New York.  Mr. Monroe is scheduled to graduate in May 2013 from Richland High School in Richland, Mississippi and is the son of Mr. Danny and Mrs. Barbara Monroe.

These candidates were active in various school clubs/activities, sports, and one was active in JROTC, and in community and volunteer activities.  Each candidate received a “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” in recognition of their nomination to the respective military academy and outstanding academic achievement.

Congressman Thompson said, “in order for America to continue to serve as a catalyst for promoting democracy and freedom world-wide, it must maintain an excellently trained military force.  These young people have demonstrated the prerequisite skills and qualifications for a successful military career.  I am confident they will excel in accomplishing any goals they have established for attending a military academy, and will have a rewarding future.”
