Congressman Thompson Appoints LeMia Jenkins Press Secretary

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) announced the appointment of LeMia Beatrice Jenkins as his Press Secretary. LeMia, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, will be based in the Congressman's Washington, D.C. office and will, among other duties, facilitate media inquiries and outreach regarding legislative matters and national policy issues.  She will also coordinate new media outreach.

"I am pleased to have LeMia join my staff," said Congressman Thompson. "She brings enthusiasm and strong work experience.  As a native of the Second District and graduate of my alma mater, I am confident that she will bring her skills and education to further the work we do for communities throughout the District.”

LeMia most recently served as Deputy Communications Director for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) and, prior to that, as Press Secretary for Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (OH-11). Her private sector experience includes work with Weber Shandwick/Powell Tate, the world’s second largest Public Relations and Public Affairs firm and the FOX TV affiliate in Jackson.  LeMia holds a Bachelor’s degree from Tougaloo College in Public Relations, and a Master of Public Health from the George Washington University. She has also studied healthcare delivery and promotion at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.
