Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) to participate in Food Bank Donation


WHAT:          The Mid-South Food Bank will receive more than 30,000 pounds of protein from Tyson Foods, Inc., designated for distribution in Tunica, Panola, Quitman and Coahoma Counties in north Mississippi.


WHO:             Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, Representatives from the Mid-South Food Bank, and Tyson Foods, Inc. will be available for photo opportunities and interviews.


WHEN:          Thursday, August 9, 2012         9 a.m.

WHERE:        Boys and Girls Club of Mississippi Delta

                        Tunica, MS 38676

WHY:             The event is significant because:

  •           Nearly a quarter of the Mississippi population is food insecure —647,050 people statewide.
  •           In Tunica County, the food insecurity rate is 28.3 percent of the population.
  •           In the Mid-South Food Bank’s service area, which totals to 31 counties in three states, the food insecurity rate is 20.2% or 406,690 people.
