Congressman Thompson Announces United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Awards $36,289,752 to the State of Mississippi

 

Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announces that the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has provided funding for the following State programs:

Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program has been awarded $23,838,889.  The CDBG program provides annual grants to state and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate- income persons.

Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) program has been awarded $3,393,329.  The ESG program provides annual grants to state, local, and private entities to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.

The HOME program has been awarded $8,079,803.  The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low- income families by providing grants to states and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.

The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program has been awarded $977,731.  The HOPWA program provides housing assistance and related services to local units of government, state, and non-profit organizations for projects that benefit low-income persons medically diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and their families.
