CONGRESSMAN THOMPSON ANNOUNCES UPWARD BOUND GRANTS TO FOUR MISSISSIPPI UNIVERSITIES

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPIToday, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the United States Department of Education has awarded a $250,000 grant to Jackson State University, $308,019 to Alcorn State University, $658,365 to Mississippi Valley State University and $871,500 to Tougaloo College under the Upward Bound Program.

The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and
individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects.
