BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the Second Congressional District’s “Artistic Discovery” Art Competition. The competition is open to any high school in the Second District.

The competition is scheduled for Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Greenville-Weston High School, located at 419 East Robert Shaw Street in Greenville, MS. The judging will be from 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and the Awards Reception will be from 12:15 - 1:15 p.m.

Congressman Thompson will be on hand to present the awards to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners along with 3 honorable mentions. The 1st place winner along with one other person will receive round trip accommodations to Washington, D.C. to the National Awards Ceremony. The winning entry will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel for the period of one year.

Again this year, the Savannah College of Art and Design will award the Artistic Merit Scholarship, in the amount of at least $3,000 to the 1st Place winner in the 2012 Congressional District Art Competition, if they meet the requirements. The artistic merit scholarship is renewable and is applicable at the college. The public is invited to attend.
