CONGRESSMAN THOMPSON NOMINATES JACKSON YOUTH TO NAVAL AND MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMIES

 

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Savonte Burns, has been nominated by United States Congressman Bennie G. Thompson to the United States Merchant Marine and Naval Academies.

Mr. Burns is scheduled to graduate in May 2012 from Forest Hill High School, Jackson, Mississippi where he is a member of the Not Here Club, the 400 Club, the 25/25 Club, and the Foreign Language Club.  He is also a member of the Soar Program, a former member of the Beta Club, Captain of the Leadership Bowl, Battalion Commander of the JROTC, and JROTC Drill Team Commander.  Mr. Burns was on the 2010 Boys State Executive Committee, and is active in various civic organizations. He has received numerous academic, achievement, and civic awards.

Savonte is the son of Ms. Monique Draper and Mr. Drexle Burns of Jackson, Mississippi.
