Congressman Thompson ANNOUNCES Blue Ribbon School Award to Kathleen Bankston Elementary SchooL
BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced The United States Department of Education has designated Kathleen Bankston Elementary School located in Greenwood, Mississippi as the 2011 National Blue Ribbon award winner.
At the invitation of Secretary Duncan, the principal and one teacher from each school will be invited to Washington, DC for the November 14th and 15th awards ceremony. At the awards ceremony, each of the schools will receive a Blue Ribbon Schools plaque and a flag to signify its status.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose students achieve at very high levels or have made significant progress and helped close gaps in achievement, especially among disadvantaged and minority students. The program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices.
