Thompson Holds Second Congressional District Art Competition

CONGRESSMAN THOMPSON HOLDS SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT ART COMPETITION


BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced the Second Congressional District’s “Artistic Discovery” Art Competition. The competition is open to any high school in the Second District. Ms. Charlotte Netters, Art Instructor, Greenville-Weston High School, has been chosen to be the coordinator for this event.


The competition is scheduled for Monday, April 18, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Greenville-Weston High School, located at 419 East Robert Shaw Street in Greenville, MS. The judging will be from 11:15 – 12:00 p.m. and the Awards Reception will be from 12:15 - 1:15 p.m.

 

Congressman Thompson will be on hand to present the awards to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners along with 3 honorable mentions. The 1st place winner along with one other person will receive round trip accommodations to Washington, D.C. to the National Awards Ceremony. The winning entry will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel for the period of one year.

 

Again this year, the Savannah College of Art and Design will award the Artistic Merit Scholarship, in the amount of $1,500 per year to the 1st Place winner in the 2011 Congressional District Art Competition. The artistic merit scholarship is renewable and is applicable at the college. The public is invited to attend.
