Congressman Thompson ANNOUNCES $300,000 Social Innovation Funds to Foundation of the Mid-South

BOLTON, MISSISSIPPI – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced The Corporation for National and Community Service has awarded $300,000  to the Foundation of the Mid-South in Jackson, Mississippi  as part of the inaugural 2010 grant-selection process for the Social Innovation Fund (SIF).

The Foundation of the Mid-South, the Delta Workforce Funding Collaborative (DWFC) serves the rural, 14-county region along the northwestern Mississippi Delta. DWFC will offer a variety of job seeker services including career navigation and specialized job training, in addition to aiding employers through skill needs assessments and job seeker screening. DWFC projects that it will serve 500 job seekers and will enroll 275 in training and education programs. Of these, 215 will receive industry-recognized credentials and 238 will obtain jobs.
