RAYMOND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GRADUATE

FROM U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PAGE PROGRAM

Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced that Ms. Kallie Hargrove of Raymond, Mississippi and Ms. Ra’nisa Kyles of Bolton, Mississippi, graduated from the United States House of Representatives Page Program.  Both Ms. Hargrove and Ms. Kyles are juniors at Raymond High School in Raymond, Mississippi.

Pages are high school juniors, 16 years of age who come to Washington, DC to live, study and support staff of the United States House of Representatives.  Hargrove and Kyles spent the 2010 fall semester working as House Pages while attending the House Page School to fulfill their academic requirements based on a year-long intensive school curriculum.

As Congressional Pages, Kallie and Ra’nisa had an opportunity to combine what they have learned in their American Government classes with a more hands-on practical experience in politics and government on Capitol Hill.

While excelling academically, both Kallie and Ra’nisa find time to volunteer in their community and church and participate in extra-curricular activities.  Ra’nisa maintains a 3.41 GPA while finding time to mentor elementary students and participate in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC).  Kallie, a First Degree Black Belt, has a 3.79 GPA and exemplifies her leadership abilities as Cheerleader Captain and Vice President of the Beta Club, which Ra’nisa is also a member.

Congressman Thompson stated, “I congratulate Kallie and Ra’nisa on graduating from the U.S. House Page Program.  The hard work and discipline they have exhibited has paid off and it is my hope that they share their experience throughout the community and continue to move forward in all of their endeavors.”

Kallie said “the Page Program was an experience I will never forget”, while Ra’nisa stated “my Capitol Hill experience was challenging, yet rewarding.”

Kallie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy and Regina Hargrove of Raymond, Mississippi.  Ra’nisa is the oldest daughter of Ms. Kizzy Shavers of Bolton, Mississippi.
