Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko spoke before a joint meeting of Congress on September 18, 2014.  Members of Congress interrupted the speech several times with standing ovations.  President Poroshenko said, This is exactly what Ukraine now needs the most—unity and solidarity.

Speaker Boehner, who invited the Ukrainian President to speak to the joint meeting, met with Mr. Poroshenko before the speech. Speaker Boehner said, …the world saw Republicans and Democrats stand in unity with President Poroshenko and his people’s aspirations for freedom, democracy, and economic opportunity. Now we must answer his call for America’s leadership, not only in sentiment, but in action.
